The Heart Behind Zanora Photography: Get to Know Steph

If you’ve landed on my website, followed along on social media, or maybe even already stepped in front of my camera, you probably know my name.

But I wanted to share a little more about the person behind Zanora Photography—and why this business means so much more to me than simply taking photos.

I’m Steph: wife, mama, photographer, storyteller, and the heart behind Zanora Photography.

A New Chapter in North Idaho

My family and I recently made one of the biggest changes of our lives when we moved from California’s Central Coast to North Idaho.

Leaving somewhere familiar was definitely nerve-racking. It meant leaving behind the place we knew, people we loved, and the roots we had already established.

But we also felt like God was leading our family into a new season.

We wanted a place where we could slow down a little, raise our daughter, grow together as a family, and continue following the path God had for us.

North Idaho felt like that place.

Now, we're building our life here one piece at a time, and getting to grow Zanora Photography alongside our family has made this chapter even more meaningful.

There is something incredibly special about photographing families and milestones in the same community we're learning to call home.

The Meaning Behind “Zanora”

One of my favorite things about my business is explaining where the name Zanora came from.

It isn’t a random word or photography term.

It’s my family.

“Za” comes from my husband, Zachary.

“Nor” comes from my maiden name, Norberg. I started my photography journey with that name, so keeping a piece of it felt like a way to remember my roots and where this all began.

And the final “a” represents my daughter, Sophia.

Zanora brings pieces of all three of us together.

That’s why when I say family is at the heart of my photography, I truly mean it.

This business is something I’m building for my family, alongside my family, while also getting to preserve memories for other families.

Storytelling Has Always Been Part of Who I Am

Long before I was building a photography business, I loved telling stories.

I graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in journalism with a focus on broadcast journalism.

That background taught me to pay attention to people, emotions, details, and the little moments that help tell a bigger story.

And looking back, I think that has shaped my photography style more than I originally realized.

When I photograph a session, I’m not only thinking about the perfectly posed photo everyone might frame and hang on the wall.

I’m watching for everything happening around it.

The laugh that happens while you're changing positions.

The way your child reaches for your hand.

The look between a couple when they forget for a second that I'm standing there with a camera.

The toddler who has absolutely no interest in my carefully planned pose.

The moments that happen naturally are often the images I love most.

Because those are the photos that tell your story.

What It’s Like to Be in Front of My Camera

One of the biggest things I want my clients to know is this:

You do not need to know how to pose.

You don’t need to practice beforehand.

Your kids don’t need to behave perfectly.

And you definitely don’t have to spend your entire session worrying about whether you look natural.

My goal is to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience where you can actually be yourselves.

I'll give you direction when you need it. If you love having lots of posing ideas, I'll guide you through them. If you're naturally comfortable together, I'll step back a little more and let

things unfold.

With families and little ones, I always want to capture those classic family portraits you’ll want to print—but I also want kids to have fun.

Sometimes movement, games, snuggles, silliness, or simply letting kids be kids creates something far more meaningful than asking everyone to stare at the camera for an entire session.

And I’ll probably keep taking photos when you think we’re transitioning to the next pose.

Those in-between seconds are where some of the best moments live.

The Person Behind the Camera

Photography is a huge part of my life, but it isn't all of who I am.

I'm a wife and mama first.

Christ is at the center of our family and the way we're trying to build our life together.

I love being outdoors, baking, creating, spending time with my family, and noticing the little things that make everyday life feel special.

Becoming a mom has also made me appreciate photography in a completely different way.

Life moves quickly.

Babies change.

Kids grow.

Relationships enter new seasons.

Families evolve.

And sometimes we don't realize how much a moment mattered until we're already looking back on it.

That's a huge part of why I believe photographs are worth creating.

They give us something tangible from a season we can never completely recreate.

Building Zanora, One Story at a Time

Zanora Photography is based in Post Falls and serves families, couples, weddings, maternity, newborns, graduates, events, and life's biggest milestones throughout North Idaho and surrounding communities.

But more than anything, I want Zanora to be a place where people feel comfortable being themselves.

I want you to look back at your photographs years from now and remember more than what everyone was wearing or where we took them.

I want you to remember what this season felt like.

The laughter.

The chaos.

The love.

The tiny details you thought you'd remember forever.

That's what I hope to preserve every time I pick up my camera.
